Workshop 2: The role of cyber insurance in incentivising security

(27 November 2020 Time: 14:00–16:00 RUSI Zoom)

Cyber risk management is a persistent and ongoing challenge across multiple sectors. RUSI and the University of Kent (UoK) are currently working in partnership to analyse the extent to which cyber insurance could provide a significant lever to incentivise good cyber security behaviours and promote a step change towards better cyber risk management in organisations. You can find out more about the project is available here.

In this workshop, RUSI and UoK will explore the role of cyber insurance in business and its ability to incentivise security practices. Considering the wide remit of cyber insurance, this workshop seeks to bring together a variety of stakeholders including business, insurers, support services and regulators to examine this topic. Businesses and SMEs are in particular encouraged to attend.

Workshops sessions will include discussion on the following themes:

Theme 1: What is the role of cyber insurance in incentivising security practices in businesses?

Theme 2: What lessons can be learnt from other insurance lines to encourage businesses to adopt better risk management practices?

The workshop output will feed into a final report, due for release in March 2021.* The final research paper will provide clear and actionable recommendations that could be adopted by policymakers and practitioners relating to cyber risk management and the role of cyber insurance.
