The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Japan, based in the British Embassy Tokyo, will host a UK FinTech and Financial Sector Cybersecurity Trade Mission to Japan from 3-7th March 2025, to coincide with Japan’s “Japan Fintech Week” endorsed by Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA).

The Japanese financial services sector is seeking to collaborate and partner with innovative FinTech companies from across the world, helping to shape a modern and resilient financial services and technology ecosystem. For UK FinTech companies, there are opportunities across B2B products and services and B2C areas such as payments. As financial technology and industry develops, cybersecurity becomes increasingly important. Opportunities exist for innovative cybersecurity countermeasures to tackle increasing concerns around ransomware, phishing attacks and to help serve the cybersecurity needs of third-party ecosystem.

DBT Japan are working closely with the organisers of two leading fintech events, Nikkei FIN/SUM (by Nikkei) and Japan FinTech Festival (by GFTN), and others, to offer the following benefits to the UK Trade Mission companies:

  • Learn and explore more about Japan’s FinTech and financial cybersecurity market and the scale of opportunity
  • Briefing from key FinTech stakeholders, such as Japanese Financial Services Agency
  • Pitching event and networking reception at the British Embassy Tokyo to meet and network with key stakeholders on 3 March (DBT Japan will work closely with multiplier network including Nikkei, Financial ISAC, etc. to attract the right audience)
  • Free ticket to attend Nikkei FIN/SUM sessions from 4-7 March (specially negotiated for UK mission members)
  • Possible presentation opportunities at Nikkei FIN/SUM which is subject to consultation with the event organiser, Nikkei Inc.
  • Invitation to attend Nikkei FIN/SUM networking reception on 7 March
  • Possible presentation opportunity at Japan Fintech Festival which is subject to consultation with the event organiser, GFTN.
  • Free access to 1-1 partnering platform provided by Japan Financial Services Agency (link will be provided later once ready),

This will provide a gateway to success for startups using FinTech services and products to address social issues. Selected startups will have the opportunity to make their final pitches at the event venue, with a focus on solving global social problems and expanding into the global marketplace. These pitches will be presented to a worldwide audience.

Expression of interest:

We would like to extend an invitation to UK FinTech and Financial Industry Cybersecurity firms to register expression of interest to join the Trade Mission.

We are aiming to have around 10 UK companies participate with cutting edge technologies, such as AI or quantum (or other critical technologies identified in the UK Science and Technology Framework) and those providing innovative cybersecurity solutions to the financial industry.

The selection process will be completed and offers to participate will be communicated by Wednesday 22 January 2025.
